Hello my friend
This has been a challenging activity. It is not easy managing 35 kids from the ages of 4 to 16. I am so fortunate to have three other ladies helping. Many of these kids come from non-Christian homes. The choir is providing quite a ministry to the expat and business community, since many of the kids joined as a result of knowing our kids at school. There are a good number of kids from our local church. All in all, we have kids from 6 different ethnic groups.
The eight weeks of preparation have been a challenge, and we have learned to be prepared for anything. From a poor turnout, because of rain, to electrical blackouts.
At one of the rehearsals, we did not have electricity, which is not unusual. One of the girls suggested that we ask God to turn the electricity back on, so that we could use the cassette player. A bit skeptical, yet not wanting to discourage her, I half-heartedly prayed for the power to return. We divided into groups for 15 minutes to work on our spoken lines. After that time, we all gathered together again to work on the songs. Still no power. As we began to sing the very first word, of the very first song, on came the lights and the music to our songs! We all whooped and hollered!! What a boost to the faith of the kids, and to my doubtful mind. God does hear our prayers.
Even better was the turnout for the concert. There were at least 200 people present to hear the Christmas story and about God’s love for all people.
After all of that, we were really happy to go pick up John and head for a short vacation in the coastal city of Madang. It was a great time of relaxing.
Then back home to do the adult Christmas concert. This went really well with a great turnout from the community.
Now I have been asked to be the full-time music teacher at the kids’ school and take over the fifth-grade religious education class as well.
We pray that your Christmas was as blessed as ours, with many opportunities to share God’s love and message of hope.
Love Nancy
