I am able to laugh now, but on that day, I did not feel like laughing. No, I was frustrated, stressed, angry, and frightened. No, I was not in the mood for laughing as the tears flowed freely from my eyes. But even though I can now laugh at the situation, it still brings up the feelings of fear and uncertainty I experienced that day. For that reason, I have waited until now to share my side of the story of the day the generator was stolen and the events related to the accusation that I had stolen a chicken. Letter 60 – The Hubbards – Perry’s folks

Perry’s parents are here and have been busy in so many ways.

Vi is busy teaching John. She is doing kindergarten with him and then doing small things with Jeff. She also helps me with meals and other activities around the house. She has been a great resource in helping develop ideas for teaching the students’ wives. She is also doing a lot of sewing. She knows how to use a treadle sewing machine and that is a big blessing because it is a challenge to operate. A lot of hand and foot coordination going on. Letter 59 – Outsiders

My Friend

Occasionally we have people who come to live and work in our village. Most of the time they are peace corps workers who have come to teach at the secondary school. We do not see them on a regular basis because we have little involvement in the secondary school here in Gbendembu. It is run by another mission who, in a way, stole the school from us. We have been here longer than they and we are in charge of the primary school. It is sad when another church uses politics to gain access to government programs and resources.
